WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A special ceremony is being held Wednesday for Gold Star families who have lost a family member serving in active military duty.
At 11 am the Gold Star Family Memorial monument located at Trinity Park in Downtown West Palm Beach will be unveiled to honor servicemen and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Lauren Berkson, who’s a Gold Star daughter, lost her father in Vietnam and spearheaded the project. She’s told WPTV this memorial will serve as a reminder that our freedom is not free.
West palm beach city commissioners gave the project the go ahead in December and it’s finally a reality. Eight other cities in palm beach county are working on a gold star memorial marker.
The ceremony is open to the public.
