Westbound traffic on Okeechobee Boulevard was closed for a time Tuesday afternoon after reports of gunfire.

West Palm Beach police say shots were exchanged between two vehicles on Okeechobee Boulevard at Spencer Drive.

A Palm Beach County employee, who did not want to be identified, was on the way to get something to eat when he says he was caught in the crossfire.

“First I checked myself when I heard the round and the cab get hit and struck with the bullet. I checked and made sure real quick that I wasn't bleeding or punctured anywhere and I literally put the floor, put the gas to the floor and ducked my head behind the steering wheel and accelerated at a high rate of speed and got out of here," he said.

Police collected several shell casings on Okeechobee Boulevard.

No one was injured in the incident.

Both suspect vehicles, a white Honda and black Mercedes, fled into unincorporated Palm Beach County.

Anyone with information is urged to contact West Palm Beach police.
