WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Country music superstar Keith Urban stole the show at this year's SunFest, and not all of the action was onstage!
"We were super excited to have him on the bill in terms of his name, he was the first act we booked," Melissa Sullivan, marketing manager for the concert, told WPTV on Monday.
Severe weather across South Florida forced Urban's plane to land in Miami instead of Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday night.
The superstar, determined to perform for his fans, ended up taking an Uber from Miami International Airport to SunFest. Along the way, he documented his trip on social media.
"The way he handled that and spoke to his fans directly talks about his character and how he's dialed in," said Sullivan.
Urban's social media posts, in which he tagged SunFest, gave the concert national attention.
"When he tweeted and tagged us, it was affirming that he was excited to play SunFest," said Sullivan. "His people told us he was wanting to try a different kind of experience and venue, and he was all in."
Sullivan said a big part of SunFest's success comes from the performers they book, and the reach those artists have on social media.
"That's one of the strategies in having these headline performers and reaching the eyeballs of their fans," said Sullivan.
Urban not only thanked his fans for their patience, but also went into the crowd after his set was over and greeted his loyal followers.
"It's awesome to see because people love their music and their performers," said Sullivan.
