WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A South Florida doctor was back in court Tuesday morning on charges that he drugged a woman at a Boca Raton restaurant.
His lawyer was granted more time to continue to work on plea deal negotiations with the state. A calendar call has been set for June 19 at the Palm Beach County Courthouse.
According to Boca Raton police, a customer said she saw Mircea Morariu pour a powder-like substance into a woman's drink while she was in the bathroom at Ouzo Bay Restaurant back in September.
Police say it took months to arrest Morariu because they were waiting on toxicology reports on evidence.
The restaurant saved the drink, handed over surveillance video, and also provided police with evidence found in a trashcan in the men's bathroom.
Morariu was released to enter an in-patient drug and alcohol treatment program.
Morariu is a neurologist with the Florida Neurological Center in Delray Beach. His office has not commented to WPTV about the case.
Story updated to clarify the court appearance was Tuesday morning.
