WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Somy Ali is a survivor of child sexual abuse.
"So for years I thought I had done something wrong," she said.
She started the organization No More Tears years ago.
"Our mission is to rescue and empower victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, victims in the LGTBQ community, animals that are abused, children that are sexually and physically abused," she said.
She's still raising awareness and helping victims during the pandemic.
"Hospitals, schools, police department, Department of Homeland Security, sometimes the FBI. We are bombarded with referrals and since the pandemic, we have housed 152 victims," Ali said.
The pandemic isn't slowing down another organization either.
Caitlen Macias and other young people are with The World Without Exploitation Youth Coalition.
"We are actually building a youth movement building support by reaching out to schools, by reaching out to colleges to get support for new legislation that's coming up," Macias said.
And they're using social media and virtual events.
"We just started out Tik Tok so we are trying to appeal to the youth audience by doing fun kinds of videos also with an informational message, so we are talking about the myths of human trafficking and exploitation," Macias said. "I had a young woman 17 years old call me and she said I was a victim of human trafficking and this youth summit gave me the power and voice to be an advocate and now she's a part of our leadership."
