WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The son of a well-known car dealer is charged with sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at a West Palm Beach hotel last summer.

Edward W. Napleton, Jr., 39, was in court Monday morning where he pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing.

Napleton Jr. faces a charge of sexual battery on a helpless person. Napleton’s family owns several car dealerships in the West Palm Beach area.

“He vehemently denies his guilt,” attorney Richard Lubin said during a first appearance before a judge on Monday.

According to the police report, Napleton and another man took the unidentified and unconscious woman to her hotel room at the Marriott Hotel in West Palm Beach on Aug. 8, 2018.

The report also states that security cameras reveal Napleton receiving a key to the woman’s room from the other man and then going inside.

Police say DNA testing from a rape kit led them to Napleton.

“I’ve already identified 12 witnesses who are favorable to the defense in the case,” Lubin said after the first appearance.

The judge on Monday set bond for Edward Napleton Jr. at $50,000.

The woman said she was in town for a work function.
