Storm Team 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle was awarded Thursday the Dick Fletcher Media Award at this year's Governor's Hurricane Conference in Orlando.
The award is given to an individual or organization for outstanding efforts to educate and inform the public about hurricanes and hurricane preparedness, response, recovery in the state of Florida.
Steve has been with WPTV for 18 years and guided viewers through Hurricane Frances, Jeanne and Wilma, which severely impacted our viewing area.
He was also with us when Hurricane Irene drenched South Florida in 1999.
This is the 30th annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference in Orlando.
More than 15,000 emergency managers, first responders, state, federal, volunteer agency and others attend from around state, nation and world.
This year’s theme is “Reboot Readiness” getting everyone involved in the hurricane preparedness and response effort.
