Technology helping law enforcement fight crime

Posted

The "Find My iPhone" or "iPad" app is something many of us have used. Police are using this technology to help solve crimes.

Tech experts say they can use applications to locate people, equipment and follow people covertly. That kind of help solves crimes, including a West Palm Beach burglary happening Thursday.

Police say someone stole an iPad mini out of car at CityPlace. The victim and police were able to track the device and the suspect.

Cyber Security expert Alan Crowetz of Infostream.cc says technology is a crime fighting tool law enforcement use daily, "We can use the WiFi. We can tell where someone lost their iPad."

These applications can help solve crimes that they wouldn't be able to solve decades ago.

"If someone takes something, even cars, technology devices, now you're getting something called the internet of things where devices like TV's and refrigerators have information on them that can be tracked by law enforcement," says Crowetz.
