Police said a train hit a car overnight in West Palm Beach near Forest Hill Boulevard and Georgia Avenue, sending the driver to the hospital.

Sgt. David Lefont said the collision occurred at about 2:17 a.m.

A man driving a 2012 Hyundai Genesis exited a parking lot at 6710 Georgia Ave. and was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of Forest Hill Boulevard.

Police said the vehicle drove through the active railroad crossing arms and was immediately struck by the front of a northbound Florida East Coast train along its left rear.

The vehicle came to a final rest about 96 feet north of the point of impact.

The driver was located alive, outside the vehicle near the driver’s door but suffered severe head trauma.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police said at this time his condition is unknown and have not released his name.
