Virgin Trains USA plans safety improvements at railroad crossings in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH — Virgin Trains USA, formerly known as Brightline, plans to carry out safety improvements on railroad crossings in West Palm Beach.

According to Virgin Trains, the improvements will include newer gate mechanisms and auxiliary flasher lights, along with improved roadway signage, signals and pavement markings. Safety improvements are also slated to include vehicle presence detection and a system that would allow a train to be controlled remotely, if necessary.

Work is planned for the railroad crossing at 49th Street and the crossing at 25th Street.

According to the city of West Palm Beach, road and sidewalk closures are planned for 49th Street between 6 a.m. March 9 through the evening of March 13.

The road will be closed at the 25th Street crossing from 6 a.m. March 12 through the evening of March 16.
