WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- Volunteers are helping local seniors be prepared should a storm threaten South Florida.

Homebound seniors often find themselves without adequate food supplies and in need of critical help following a storm.

Florida Power & Light teamed up with Meals on Wheels volunteers to pack hurricane food kits for homebound senior citizens in West Palm Beach.

"It's just heartwarming, they are so thrilled and so happy that somebody cares about them enough to do this and takes a lot of stress off of them because they are homebound they don't have the ability to get out of their homes in the event of a storm," said volunteer Angela Pitale.

250 food kits were packed Wednesday.

Each will be delivered and will include three days' worth of shelf-stable food and a gallon of water.
