INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — A bicyclist was killed Saturday morning in Indian River County.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, the bicyclist, a 63-year-old Vero Beach man, was fatally struck by a vehicle on A1A at Wildlife Way near Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.
Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the 2010 Nissan Altima failed to maintain control of their vehicle and swerved onto the paved shoulder, striking the man.
The bicyclist was transported to Sebastian Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.
Northbound A1A is shut down as the scene is under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
