An Indian River County man was arrested Sunday after slapping his live-in girlfriend in the face and chasing her in the street, according to the Fellsmere Police Department.

The incident happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the intersection of N. Willow Street and Lincoln Street in Fellsmere.

According to the victim and several witnesses, Juan Dominguez Garciano, approached the victim and slapped her in the face.

The victim ran to a nearby church in attempt to get help and Dominguez waited outside.

Officials said Dominguez raised his voice to an officer while being interrogated, making several comments about not caring that he was in trouble or if he was deported.

Dominguez made unsolicited admissions while being transported to the Indian River County Jail, including, "I just slapped her, it's not a big of an offense," police said.

He was arrested and charged with battery domestic violence.
