INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fort Pierce man was arrested in Indian River County and charged with misuse of a laser lighting device after he apparently pointed it at a law enforcement helicopter.
The Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit was assisting road patrol deputies looking for a missing person late Thursday night when the helicopter was struck three times with a laser.
Deputies found the suspect, Robert Chester Frankum, 40, on the front porch of a home near Vero Beach still holding the laser.
Frankum was arrested and charged with misuse of laser lighting.
Jail records show that bond was set at $3,500. His court date is March 6.
