The FDLE has canceled an alert for two children who were believed to be with an Indian River County murder suspect.

4-year-old Edward Gamez and 10-month old Lizette Gamez-Flores were believed to be with their father Edward Geovani Guardado Gamez and his girlfriend Maria Maricela Flories Lopez.

Police say the children were in the company of their mother Maria and found safe in North Carolina Friday morning.

Police say Gamez dropped off his children and girlfriend off the side of the highway near an exit in North Carolina when investigators believe he realized law enforcement was on to him.

Vero Beach Police Chief David E. Currey says a passerby helped Maria Lopez and the children get to an open gas station, then contacted authorities.

Police say Lopez is cooperating but they still don't know where Gamez is heading next.

Police believe Gamez shot two brothers outside their Vero Beach home last week, killing one.

Vero Beach police say that they obtained arrest warrants charging Gamez with First Degree Murder with a Firearm and Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm.

Police believe Gamez has had help along the way from friends or family to hide from authorities. They say he is likely driving a white sedan and considered armed and dangerous.
