VERO BEACH, Fla. — A group that's fighting to stop a Vero Beach community pool from being shut down is rallying at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
A large sit-in protest is taking place in front of city leaders.
The Leisure Square Pool, which is open all year, is used by seniors, youth swimmers, and the Special Olympics.
But the pool is tentatively set to close on Jan. 1 because it's becoming a financial drain, losing around $170,000 a year, according to City Manager Monte Falls.
Falls said ideas are being thrown around to take the money that would've been used to operate the pool and instead use it to build a skatepark at Leisure Square Community Park.
A petition is now circulating on social media to keep the pool open indefinitely.
"The only way to make difference is to stand up and say this isn’t right," said Pat Clark, a swimmer who's part of the effort to keep the pool open.
