The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said three East Stuart men were arrested Sunday after a large fight at New Monrovia Park escalated into a retaliatory shooting.

Shortly after the fight started, deputies said they responded to shots fired along the 4400 block of SE Field St.

Deputies were notified that the suspects fled on Cove Road in a white truck.

A deputy located the truck and said he could see people hiding in the bed of the vehicle. He also saw someone throw a handgun out of the vehicle's window.

MCSO said the driver of the truck initially stopped, but then sped off, prompting another short pursuit.

Not far from that scene, law enforcement deployed stop sticks as the fleeing vehicle approached, deflating two of the truck's tires and disabling the vehicle.

Five men were inside the truck and all were taken into custody. Three of those men were arrested and charged with crimes ranging from fleeing and eluding to possessing a stolen firearm.

MCSO said the shooting was in retaliation for a fight that broke out at the park earlier in the day. The suspects were identified as Damonquie Southern, Devern Clemon III and Trevon Jamison.

As deputies were working that scene, they said they were also called to two other large fights that broke out in near-by neighborhoods.

No injuries were reported in those incidents.
