Jupiter teen killed in Hobe Sound crash

A 17-year-old  was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Hobe Sound Saturday morning, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened at 6:51 a.m. on southbound US-1 north of  the entrance to Jonathan Dickinson State Park.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jonathan Vicente Peruch of Jupiter, was traveling on US-1 when for an undetermined reason the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree with the left side of his 1999 Mercury Cougar.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, says Florida Highway Patrol in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

It is not known if alcohol played a role in the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
