Street flooding remains a concern

Posted

Flooding on US 1 has closed some turn lanes in Jensen Beach.

Standing water is over the sidewalk and covering an entire lane near NW Mall Entry South.

Drivers must make their way around lane closures to enter shopping centers along US 1 in the area.

Heavy rainfall Thursday might cause more flooding on streets and low-lying and poor drainage areas, according to the National Weather Service.

It says the potential for flooding will be higher in areas that received heavy rainfall amounts yesterday. On the Treasure Coast that includes Port Saint Lucie, Jensen Beach and Stuart.

Over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Drivers are reminded that when facing a flooded area to'turn around, don't drown.'
