MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - A 27-year-old man is under arrest in connection with the death of a two-month old puppy, the Martin County Sheriff's Office says.

The sheriff's office said last month a pit bull named Taz was brought the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast with a fractured skull.

The puppy was lethargic and non-responsive and later transferred to the Palm City Animal Clinic where it had to be euthanized.

Danny Rae Wagner of Stuart has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives say he told them he accidentally stepped on the puppy's head but didn't take the animal for treatment.

The dog suffered for two days until another person brought the dog to the Humane Society, the sheriff's office said.

Wagner's bond was set at $5,000.
