Martin County launches new tourism campaign

Along the Treasure Coast there is growing concern about the releases from Lake Okeechobee.

Recent WPTV reports have already shown the devastating effects to the quality of the estuary and Atlantic Ocean. 

Fisherman showed us the changes in water color Monday, it could be seen just off the Martin County coastline.

On Tuesday, the Martin County Tourism and Marketing Office is launching a campaign to overcome public perception and teach people how to become advocates against the fresh water discharges.

The video campaign appeared first on "Today on 5," it shows people that when it comes to the discharges, the county is frustrated too.

But unlike 2013, they want a clear vision for people to follow when comes to advocacy efforts.

“When it comes to the damaging effects on the environment, we’re helpless, but this campaign is all about identifying where we have power and that power is our collective voice during a crisis,” said Nerissa Okiye, Director of the Office of Tourism and Marketing.
