A 24-year-old man is in custody after a three-hour SWAT standoff Sunday evening in Martin County.

Around 5 p.m., deputies said the suspect, identified as Jonathan Knapp Jr., barricaded himself inside a home at the Monterey Yacht and Country Club located at 1909 SW Palm City Rd.

Knapp Jr., barricaded himself in his father’s condo following a family dispute. His father told deputies he was armed.

When deputies arrived, Knapp refused to let them in, and told deputies he would begin killing them with a rifle. Deputies said they could hear Knapp loading the rifle.

A SWAT team was called to the scene while deputies began securing other residents at the complex. After two hours, MCSO said Knapp continued his threats to shoot and kill the deputies.

The SWAT team entered the condo and fired CS powder (an ingredient in tear gas) through the walls and into the bedroom.

Shortly afterward, the SWAT team forced Knapp out of the condo.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Jail. He faces a number of charges including aggravated assault.
