Martin County school board votes against arming teachers

Posted

The Martin County school board voted Tuesday against arming teachers with guns.

The option of arming teachers is open to all school districts under Florida's new gun and school safety law. It's similar to the Sentinel Program, which operates on some college campuses in Florida

The board voted 4-1 to allow only trained law enforcement officers to carry firearms on school campuses.

Some students and parents showed up to argue against the program.

After public comment, the school board decided to opt-out of the new guardian program.
