An animal abuse case is under investigation in Martin County after a two-month old puppy had to be euthanized for severe injuries.

The sheriff's office said last month a two-month old pit bull puppy named Taz was brought the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast with a fractured skull.

The Stuart woman who brought the puppy to the humane society claimed she was not sure what was wrong with the dog.

The puppy was lethargic and non-responsive and later transferred to the Palm City Animal Clinic where it had to be euthanized.

Detectives don't know who hurt the dog but are working to find the woman who brought the dog to the humane society.
