STUART, Fla. -- The Martin County Sheriff's Office has one person in custody after one person was shot Friday afternoon in Stuart.
Deputies are at the scene of the shooting in the 900 block of NW Sunset Terrace in North River Shores.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says initial statements indicate that one person was armed with a knife and one person was armed with a gun. The person armed with a knife appears to have been shot multiple times.
Sheriff Snyder says it does not appear that the two people involved in the incident lived in the area, but were both doing work in the neighborhood.
Friday evening, Martin County deputies identified the shooting victim as 55-year-old Eduardo Figuero Bello of West Palm Beach. Police took 27-year-old Joseph Lee Marcum into custody as the possible gunman.
Friday night, deputies did not say whether Marcum will face any charges.
Bello was in critical but stable condition.
Deputies said it appeared the shooting happened after an altercation about parking. Neighbors along the street said it appeared the pickup truck driver, Bello, was unable to drive around a construction vehicle and crew.
Neighbor Jeanne Schad heard an argument outside. "I heard men arguing," she said. Then, she heard multiple gun shots.
One neighbor said a paramedic who lives on the street rushed to help Bello before an ambulance arrived and found about 4 gunshot wounds.
Schad finds some peace of mind knowing one thing: "It's not the neighbors that are acting up."
Deputies are still gathering witness statements and evaluating surveillance footage from nearby homes.
