On Tuesday the Jupiter Police Department held its annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony.
Each year the department celebrates and remembers the lives of two Jupiter police officers: Major Ed Humphrey who died in the line of duty in 1995, and PFC Bruce St. Laurent who also died in the line of duty in 2013.
“There’s never any real guarantee that anybody is going to make it home in any event after their shift. So when we lose a fellow brother or sister in law enforcement it really rubs at our heart strings, we never forget and we look for opportunities to honor them,” said Robert Volpe, chaplain with the department.
At this year's ceremony, the department also honored the lives of 163 officers who died in the line of duty nationwide. Eleven of them were law enforcement officers in the state of Florida.
