For the past five years, a family in Jupiter has hosted a clown-themed haunted house, and recent "creepy clown" sightings aren't stopping them from continuing the tradition.

Roy and Nikki Jandreau run the "Heather Street Klownz" haunted house on Heather Street in the Jupiter Heights neighborhood.

They had thousands of people come through the house last year and expect a large crowd again Monday night.

The couple says they feel creepy clowns running around threatening people are giving what they do a bad name.

"When you go out there and threaten somebody, in the summertime, and you're really threatening somebody, that's not a good deal," Roy Jandreau said.

"People come here to get scared," Nikki said.

She says they did make a few changes this year to keep everyone, including their clown actors safe. Most years, the clowns will go out into the street in the neighborhood, but they won't be doing that this year.

The Jandreaus said they have never considered changing their haunted house theme. The idea actually came out of Nikki's own fear of clowns.

The haunted house is in the yard between their home and their neighbor's home in the 6000 block of Heather St. It is open at 7:30 p.m. Monday and is free to walk through.
