If you answer your phone and the caller claims to be from Florida Power and Light and is threatening to turn off you electricity, don't be alarmed.
Someone is targeting businesses in Jupiter and demanding payment in order to keep the power on, according to city police.
The impersonator demands iTunes gift cards or PayPal My Cash cards if the owner doesn't pay for an increased service deposit.
After they are purchased the intended target is instructed to telephone the scammer with the numbers on the cards.
Jupiter police say FPL will not call you demanding gift cards in return for electricity.
If you have any information you are urged to call the Jupiter Police Department at (561) 746-6201 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS (8477).
