UPDATE:
The Jupiter Town Council didn't make a decision Tuesday night about helping residents at the Suni Sands Mobile Home Park find a new place to live.
The issue will be addressed again at a meeting Aug. 4.
EARLIER STORY:
Dozens of residents refuse to leave Suni Sands mobile home park in Jupiter, even though they were served with eviction orders.
A Key West-style development is planned for the property, and the remaining Suni Sands residents may get financial help to move if the Jupiter Town Council votes 'yes' to the assistance program.
But many people say they don't know a thing about it.
"I'm very upset it’s emotionally draining having people lose everything they have and this town could care less," said HOA President Tom Ryan.
Homeowners got eviction notices in November, ordering them to be out by the end of April.
The property manager said about two dozen residents chose to remain. Now a war of words and legal battles continues.
“No we haven’t been evicted because we are still here," said Ryan. "If we’d been evicted, we’d be gone. The property manager said evictions are being processed in the courts.
Meanwhile, empty units are getting hauled off. A Jupiter town spokesperson says the vote is planned on a proposal to help residents with relocation assistance. The program could pay them up to $5,000, with certain income limitations.
"It’s just smoke and mirrors,” said Ryan. "They are trying to look like good guys. The town has never approached me about it."
Dr. Tina Farrior has lived at Suni Sands for nearly a decade. "I’m worried at times whether I'm going to come and my home will be gone," she said.
She plans to stay as long as she possibly can. The only thing that would force her out at this point is a judge's order.
Many of the people still living at Suni Sands say they’ll be at Tuesday night's town council meeting hoping to learn more about that assistance program.
