Workers are busy constructing the Alton Town Center on Donald Ross Road east of Interstate 95 in Palm Beach Gardens.
A Publix and PetSmart recently opened, and are residents are looking forward to what's next.
One resident said, "Love it here." Another said, This area is great."
John Manrique who is Vice President of Marketing for Kolter Homes says other stores will be opening by this summer.
"They've got more shopping, dining retail will be coming in between now and June. Most of the places will open. Fitness is going in there. A lot of good stuff. Alton Road which is right here will connect Donald Ross to Hood Road," said Manrique.
Hundreds of homes with stores are within walking distance. "That was the goal to create something with a lot of connectivity a lot of walkability and smart design," Manrique said. "Single family homes when all is said and done, we will have right around 930. There's an additional 300 apartments that are just north of us between Alton Town Center and Alton. Alton is also home to United Technologies Corporation, they moved their offices here just about a year ago."
And in case you're wondering why they named it Alton... "Alton came from an old English word that is basically all town, a place for everybody that's where the name generated from."
Resident Lori Kaufman loves the living here.
"It's a great community that's what it is, it is like a great community," said Kaufman.
Just west of I-95, about 450 homes will be built there, ranging in price from $600,000 to $2 million.
