PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — A toy gun prompted a lockdown Wednesday afternoon at Howell L. Watkins Middle School in Palm Beach Gardens.
The School District of Palm Beach County confirmed that it was a Nerf gun.

It prompted a code-red lockdown at the school, but the lockdown has since been lifted.
Dr. Presley Charles, principal at the school, alerted parents to the incident in a telephone call.
"The school was placed in a brief precautionary lockdown as school police investigated a report of a possible gun on campus. Following a thorough search, which included the discovery of a toy NERF gun. School police determined that there was no risk to the campus, and gave an "all clear."
The School District is committed to ensuring a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff, and disciplinary action may be taken against any student or individual who violates the District’s Zero Tolerance Policy for any infraction that poses a threat to school safety.
Parents, please remind your students that some items they can access at home are inappropriate to bring to school. I would also recommend an occasional check of your student’s backpack before they leave in the morning."
