Last year for Snug Harbor Christmas lights

Neighbors complain about Christmas lights

Snug Harbor Drive has been synonymous with a Christmas wonderland for many years now.

From the music to the thousands of lights, it's meant to bring a smile to everyone's face.

"A lot of people enjoy it. We enjoy it," said John Staluppi, light show organizer.

But traffic the light show brings with it is ruining it for some neighbors.

"How about a compromise? How about something?" one neighbor said. "For the last however many years this has been ruining all of us over here."

The traffic is so bad it takes some neighbors hours to get back to their home.

"I've resigned myself to not going out. I don't go out during the holidays because I can't," the neighbor said.

But when the lights were turned off on Sunday, Dec. 18, the traffic was just the same.

"People were saying, 'I drove all the way from Tampa,'" Staluppi said. "Kids were crying. I mean I don't know what to do."

Word spread fast on social media and attracted even more people this year than previously for the organizer.

"This will be the last year," Staluppi said.

Monday, Dec. 19 the lights will be turned off at 9:00 p.m. and then they will be back on from Saturday Dec. 24 to Sunday Dec. 25 from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
