PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The driver of a car that drove around lowered railroad crossing gates and was struck by an oncoming train died Saturday.
Palm Beach Gardens Police say 69-year-old Sandy Ortega Alphonso of Palm Beach Gardens was driving the car that collided with a train at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 near the intersection of Alternate A1A and RCA Blvd.
Multiple witnesses say a red 2015 Honda two-door car drove under the lowered railroad crossing gates as the train approached.
The train struck Alphonso's driver's side, killing him.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
