A heavy law enforcement presence on SE 40th Avenue in Okeechobee County resulted in the precautionary lockdown of a nearby school, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators say the area is secure but the road, also known as Everglades Avenue, which had been closed in both directions, is now back open.
There is no threat to the nearby school, Everglades Elementary, according to the sheriff's office. However, additional personnel were sent to the campus to assist the school's resource officer "until the area was deemed safe."
No further details have been released.
