OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 21-year-old Okeechobee man was killed early Sunday in a crash.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says Alfredo Renteria was driving a 2016 Honda Accord westbound on NW 36th Street approaching a left curve at 2:17 a.m.
He failed to successfully negotiate the curve and left the roadway, initially striking a guardrail, then traveling on to a residential property where the vehicle struck a tree head-on.
Renteria died as a result of his injuries.
His passenger, 18-year-old Jewel Lagunas of Okeechobee, was seriously injured.
Neither of them were wearing a seat belt, according to FHP.
