OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck and killed in Okeechobee County Tuesday night.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a woman was driving a 2011 Jeep Laredo westbound on SR-70 at 9:44 p.m.
FHP says 47-year-old Bernabe Hernandez-Gonzalez of Okeechobee was in a wheelchair in the center of the roadway on SR-70.
The driver of the Jeep was unable to observe Hernandez-Gonzalez in the wheelchair and struck her, causing her to fall from the wheelchair and be projected to the south side of SR-70.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
