An 8-year-old Boca Raton boy is being honored for saving his younger brother’s life.
In February, 7-year-old Cullen Flynn was riding on a furniture dolly and rolled while the family was helping a friend move.
“My dad said don’t go into the road,” said Liam.
Cullen's brother Liam saw Cullen roll into the road and raced to stop him, but a car was coming right at that moment and ran over Liam’s leg.
“When I scooped Liam off the ground, his little brother was laying six in chess from the front of the car as it stopped,” said father, Sean Flynn.
Liam had two broken bones in his heel and his mother, Dawn Flynn, said she recognizes how much worse it could have been.
“My life could have been changed indefinitely,” said Dawn Flynn.
Liam Flynn’s Cub Scout master, Christy Anderson, heard about Liam’s heroic actions and passed the information along to the Cub Scout District who then sent it to the National Boy Scout of America Organization.
The BSA decided to honor Liam Flynn with a medal for heroism for saving his brother’s life.
Anderson said this is a very rare award for a Cub Scout to receive.
“He put himself in danger to keep his brother from getting run over,” said Sean Flynn.
Liam’s parents describe Liam as a hero at heart, maybe taking after his dad who is a Boca Raton Police officer.
“He is always looking out for his brother, and other kids, and animals,” said Dawn Flynn.
Liam Flynn will be honored with the award on Monday during a National Court of Honor Ceremony. The mayor of Boca Raton, members of the sheriff’s office and representatives from Boy Scouts America will be in attendance.
The ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church.
