The trip comes at the end of a week-long drive held by Boca Raton Firefighter and Paramedic Benevolent.

The group collected items like non-perishable food, tents, coolers, batteries, air mattresses and chainsaws.

Firefighters filled more than one moving truck and trailer.

"We are very fortunate in South Florida that when push comes to shove, we're going to show up," firefighter Aaron Oatley said.

The group left at 7 a.m. Friday, they are set to return the same day. Items collected are being dropped off in Marathon Key.
