More police officers will be patrolling University View Apartments in Boca Raton. The department is adding presence and is working with the management team there after there were three robberies in a span of 24 hours last weekend.
"My son was frantic and at that point they were with the police department," said William Ragusa, whose son was jumped and robbed Sunday morning.
Police say three victims in three separate cases were approached by three to seven men.
"He got bruised up, he scraped his knee, the other guys were knocked to the ground, so it happened quickly," added Ragusa.
Boca Raton Police say the first incident happened shortly after midnight Saturday. The victim said he was trying to get back to his car when he and his friends were approached give men asking them if they wanted drugs. When they said no, the victim said he was attacked and his iPhone was stolen.
The second incident happened 45 minutes later. The victim told police he and his friends were leaving a party and were approached by three men asking if they could make a call on his phone. When he took out his cell phone, one of the men grabbed it and walked off. The victim tried to offer the man 500 dollars for his iPhone back, the men then also took the victim's wallet.
Ragusa's son told police he and his friends were jumped Sunday morning while leaving the apartments. His son's iPhone was also stolen. Some residents say they are concerned and welcome more patrols.
"Hopefully that will make this place much safer and keep the gates closed," said Shawnok Khurana, a resident at the apartment.
We tried to reach out to management at the apartments and are waiting to hear back. Boca Raton Police say they will be working with the management team there to make security improvements. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kimsal at 561-620-6144 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.
