BOCA RATON, Fla.- Coyotes have been spotted in a Boca Raton neighborhood. The animals were seen near West Camino Real, east of I-95.
FWC said it is mating season and coyotes are more active, and the east Boca neighborhoods have been making sure everyone is aware they are in the area.
“I just look in that direction and I see a coyote just kind of sauntering across the street and I was like ‘Oh my God,’” said Joan Genest.
Genest said it was quite a shock to see a coyote walking down her street in the Palm Beach Farms neighborhood. She said she went to her Nextdoor app to tell others about what she saw.
“I alarmed my neighbors because there is little park right here because there are kids,” she said.
Genest wasn’t the only one; others on Nextdoor say they have spotted coyotes in the area.
“Everyone is concerned about a coyote sighting,” said Lorena Palmiotto.
She said she has two little dogs and keeps them on the leash or watches them in the yard.
FWC says that is exactly what animal owners should do. They also tell people to not leave any food outside.
FWC has information on coyotes on its website and explains what you should do if you come into contact with one.
Coyote tip: Keep small dogs on a short leash and supervise them while outside, especially at night: https://t.co/dbGoh24NoU #coyote pic.twitter.com/T8TNCCfEta
