Demolished building providing hope for families

Posted

Piece by piece dozens of apartments was torn apart at Mizner on the Green, Tuesday.

"Complete transformation nothing will stay as is," Noam Zim said.

Crews are preparing for the demolition of Mizner on the Green a property that's stood in Boca Raton for a couple of decades. Now the owner says it's time for a change.

"For us it was a win, win," he said.

Before it's demolished and turned into a luxury condo building all of the appliances will be given a new home.

"Restoring lives, restoring hope, restoring our environment and actually making good use of our resources," Kari Oeltjen said.

Oeltjen is the Vice President of Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County. She says this is the first time the organization has partnered with a commercial developer.

From doors to washing machines and refrigerators anything that can be salvaged will go to a family in need.

"We're making happy Thanksgivings possible with these today," she said.

"To find someone that can actually benefit from that and enjoy it and save landfill it was a win, win," Zim said.

The Vice President of Habitat for Humanity says they are hoping to partner with more local developments on similar projects in the near future.
