BOCA RATON, Fla. — The hunt is on to find an exotic bird that was stolen from a Boca Raton home.
Miriam Walling, the bird's owner, said a thief broke into her home off Yamato Road on April 29, ransacked it and stole Oscar, her pet military macaw. The crook also grabbed $70.
"It was devastating," said Walling. "They trashed by bedroom. There was glass all over the place, and then I realized that Oscar was missing."
Walling said she's had Oscar for 24 years, and he's on a special medical diet and cannot survive without very specific care.
"I thought, what? Why would someone take a bird?" said Walling, who owns two other exotic birds and two dogs. Neither of those animals were harmed during the burglary.
Boca Raton police are investigating the crime, and Walling is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of her macaw.
"I'm nervous I won't get him back, because every day that goes by, the chances are less and less," said Walling.
If you know who stole the animal, call the Boca Raton Police Department at 561-338-1234.
