Car owners are literally giving criminals the keys to their cars. But it’s not the traditional key, it’s a key fob. A remote-like device that allows you to start your car without putting anything in the ignition.
In Boca Raton, police said 42 percent of stolen car cases so far this year involve criminals getting away because the owner left a fob in the car.
Police said people place the fob in their cup holders or center consoles then leave it there. In most cases, leaving the fob in your car prevents you from locking it.
The police department posteda video on Facebookreminding residents to remove their key fobs and lock their doors.
