The Boynton Beach Police Department on Monday issued a warning to drivers after they said the city and Palm Beach county have experienced an increase in vehicle burglaries.

According to Facebook post, police said there have been 74 auto burglaries in Boynton Beach since June 1.

Thirty cars were left unlocked, and in 44 of the incidents, the thieves smashed the vehicles' passenger-side windows.

Police said items stolen from the cars included cellphones, purses, wallets, passports, cash, iPods, iPads, designer sunglasses and a handgun.

Authorities remind drivers to remove all valuables from their cars and lock the doors.
