Boynton Beach police say they have arrested a teen in connection with a drug-related fatal shooting Sunday night at Caloosa Park.
Desean Menelas, 20, of Boynton Beach died of his wounds at a hospital.
Police have charged a 17-year-old from Riviera Beach with first-degree murder with a firearm.
The U.S. Marshals South Florida Regional Task Force took the suspect into custody around 11 p.m. Monday after a traffic stop on 45th Street in West Palm Beach, police said.
A witness told police Melelas was meeting with two people who were planning on buying marijuana from him, according to a probable cause affidavit. The witness said one of the people pulled a gun and as the witness turned away several shots were fired.
A police crime scene unit later found seven spent .45mm shell casings and two spent 9mm shell casings, police said.
Police were later able to find the victim's cellphone and said communication on the phone was consistent with a drug deal, the police report stated. They were able to trace the alleged shooter through a number on the phone.
