BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.-- A new barbershop in Boynton Beach is doing more than just cutting hair, it is helping local artists.

Qure Barber Shop opened about six months ago. Owner Corey Sturkey said he wanted to open his own brand of barbershop in Boynton, one that gave back to the community.

“You don’t feel like you are in a typical barbershop,” said Sturkey.

It doesn’t feel typical because of all the paintings on the wall; they are from local artists and they are for sale.

“Free of charge, I don’t want any money or any commissions, the other thing I ask them to do is frame it if It needs to be framed and a little contact card to put under it,” said Sturkey.

While someone is getting their hair cut they will look at local talent.

Daniele Echeverry said this is the first time he was sold personal paintings.

“It’s a place where people can hang up their own things and get inspired,” he said.

Another artist, Olive Stewart, has two photos hanging. He said the opportunity Sturkey is providing is priceless.

“I think it means everything, to have the opportunity to share what you feel with the world,” said Stewart.

Sturkey said he plans to keep growing his business and continue to provide opportunities to people in the community.
