BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — The Boynton Beach Police Department is investigating a traffic homicide in the Windemere neighborhood.
According to BBPD, the incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, and involved someone who was trick-or-treating.
WPTV’s Michael Hoffman spoke with residents of that neighborhood as they process the traumatic moments of what they saw.
Boynton Beach police have not confirmed the exact location of that incident, but neighbors Hoffman spoke with say they saw police, fire and EMS responding right on Rutland Lane in Boynton Beach. They add that what they saw and heard that night will never be forgotten.
Chris Dasconio walked through what he saw on Halloween.
“In this area was a woman, like, on her knees, crying, screaming in Creole,” said Dasconio. “There was some little kids… They were screaming and crying. There was maybe 15 various first responders between police and the fire department.”
He says after passing out candy in his driveway, he packed up and went back inside. Shortly after, he heard screams and rushed out the door.
“You could see it on people's faces, police and stuff like that. And yeah, I think it shook everybody up,” said Dasconio.
He says he saw a child on the ground with first responders attempting CPR. The child was eventually loaded into an ambulance. He says it’s a feeling of helplessness that he will never forget.
“I don't think I've ever heard anybody screaming and crying like that,” said Dasconio. “You know, aside from some movies, to see it in person was, like I said, very surreal and just gut-wrenching. Like you wish there was something that you could do. But, you know, I think at that time, there wasn’t.”
