BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A West Palm Beach man was killed in a four-vehicle crash that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach for several hours Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Axel Ortiz, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. near the Boynton Beach Boulevard exit.
Ortiz was driving a 1992 Ford F350 when the crash occurred.
All of the other drivers involved in the crash suffered minor injuries. They were identified as Maria Andres, 21, of Lake Worth, Freddy Fernandez, 48, of Pembroke Pines and Ernesto Robania, 50, of Miami.
Both Robania and Fernandez were taken to Bethesda Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
A semi-truck was involved in the crash and had heavy damage to the front of the vehicle.
Just before 3 p.m., there were boxes and other debris spotted strewn across the road. Southbound delays stretched all the way to Lake Worth.
According to the FHP, alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
