Red tide has not reached the southern part of Palm Beach County yet, but people are cautious to go to the beaches.

The Boynton Beach Inlet was not as busy as usual on Wednesday.

Robert Boyes said he fishes at the inlet almost every day. He said he has seen fewer people fishing the past few days.

“It has been down, there are usually 30 to 40 people out there fishing, and there are five or six out there today,” said Boyes.

This is not normal, normally there are a lot more people here,” said Matt Koven.

Koven was going surfing at the inlet and said he hadn’t felt any red tide symptoms.

Owner of Southern Comfort Charter John Schulz said the red tide has him worried for his business.

He said he has started to get phone calls with people asking if their boats are still going out.

“For every phone call we get, there is probably 10 or 15 that don’t call and just don’t come,” said Shulz.

He said the red tide could impact all the business that rely on water. He said he is scared this will affect the upcoming season.

“We are worried the northern people see that we have issues down in Florida and they will make plans to go elsewhere,” he said.

Cities in southern Palm Beach County have said they will continue to monitor the red tide event.
