PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a deadly rollover crash involving a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue ambulance and another vehicle.
It happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. Monday near Tuscany Bay Blvd. and Military Trail in suburban Delray Beach.
A PT Cruiser driven by 41-year-old Sylvia Guifaro was heading north on Military Trail when it veered left, crossed the center median and collided with the southbound ambulance in the center southbound lane, according to traffic investigators.
The ambulance, which was heading to Delray Medical Center with a patient at the time, struck a curb and overturned, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
Guifaro, of Lake Worth was pronounced dead at a hospital.
”It’s sad, “ added Ralph Stallings, who resides near the scene of Monday’s crash.
”The roads are good it’s just the drivers — it’s just the drivers,” said Ron Lemessy, who travels daily on Military Trail. “People have to pay attention. They have to be more vigilant about their driving.”
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says all occupants in the fire rescue vehicle were sent to the hospital and are expected to be okay. One received minor injuries.
Military Trail was shut down for several hours Monday morning during the investigation, but it eventually reopened around 1 p.m.
